PROJECT
KPU’S Sustainable Developmental Goals Project
As an initiative led by faculty members and students, Kwantlen Polytechnic University mapped its academic
and administrative ecosystems towards illustrating how it supports the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while analyzing opportunities for growth to align with the school’s overall KPU2060 Campus Master Plan. (SOURCE)
Tactics to approach the identification and mapping of the UNSDG goals at KPU include professional consultations, program scanning, meetings, and events for community members to interact with the official team. (SOURCE)
CONTEXT
SOLUTION
My role as the graphic designer for this initiative included a wide-range of responsibilities. I was highly involved in the beginning of this journey by leading production and art direction for the community-member events to collect data for the mapping project.
Afterwards, I continued my work with the team by completing an official project interim report PDF (with over 100+ pages) and designing additional web and social media assets for SDG Week @ KPU.

The challenge for this project was to create assets which aligned to two different corporate brand identities: Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) and the United Nations’ Sustainable Developmental Goals (UNSDGs).
Through numerous iterations and meetings with the University Lead, feedback was implemented to design different versions of final assets for various use-cases.
Assets produced for on-campus activities utilized the colours of the 17 UNSDG Goals to bring attention to the booths set up by the teams for community participation. This art direction was conceptualized and executed by myself.
For web and social media materials, I developed different final banner templates with separate colour palettes to represent both corporate brand identities.
As an official university document, the interim report remained true to KPU’s branding guidelines. As a graphic designer, I received guidance and feedback from the Faculty Consultant.
